Abstract
This work has been carried out in the framework of multimedia document authoring and presentation with particular interest to their temporal dimension (coordination of media objects over time). The goal of this thesis is in the one hand the integration of this dimension in the overall structure of the document (logical, spatial and hypertext) and in the other hand the integration of basic media objects having themselves a temporal dimension (video, audio, user interactions, ..). The target documents are therefore multimedia, time-based and interactive. Our work addressed as a first stage the definition of a multimedia temporal language. This language allows a declarative specification of temporal scenarios based on a similar work achieved in the field of temporal constraints satisfaction and planning. Then we have developed a set of algorithms for the analysis and consistency checking of the author specifications. These algorithms take into account three main issues in multimedia authoring: incrementality, efficiency and the management of indeterminism. A synthesis mechanism has been also designed to produce a solution which is delivered to a presentation system. This system performs the scheduling and the monitoring of a presentation using a state automaton extracted from the graph. Finally, we present our main results through a prototype implementation of an authoring and presentation system called Madeus.
