[ "! il EMusic Educators National Conference ELECTIONS National Officers 1966-1968 Division Officers 1967-1969 ]i 1L U1]] The Music Educators National Conference will again hold both national and division elections by mail. Early in January 1966 official ballots will be sent to each member eligible to vote. For the first time in the history of the Conference we will choose a president-elect. In the 1964 election an amendment to the MENC Constitution was approved by the membership in order to provide for the office of president-elect, thereby assuring future presidents a of preliminary experience. Beginning with the 1968 election, a president-elect will be elected. only Therefore, national officers to be elected at this time include a a president-elect, and three members-at-large of the National Board of Directors. Each voting member also will choose a president and second vice-president of his respective MENC division. The retiring presidents, both national and division, automatically become the first vice-presidents. Candidates for national and division offices are presented on the next six pages. According to the MENC Constitution, Article III, sections 1, 2, 6, 7, 9, members eligible to vote include active, special-active, life, contributing, and corporate members. Not eligible to vote are student members, partial members, and any member whose dues are unpaid for the 1965-1966 membership year (July 1, 1965-June 30, lN m 41 ]period 'I ]] I 7 npresident, L [7 1 1L liJ |t 1966). Introduction of a great new line of clarinets for the school musician, three sopranos, an alto and a bass, added to the famous line of Martin instruments heralds entry of Wurlitzer into the field of instrumental music. Actually, it's a reentry because Wurlitzer was marketing wind instruments more than a century ago. And, this is just the beginning! The Hammond Organ is versatile -in the kinds of music you can play, in the places you can play it: classrooms, auditoriums, gymswherever. And it fits so well into music education programs, too. 2. The Hammond Organ is rugged. You can move it wherever music is needed, even to the football field. (It's been done.) 3. The famous Hammond tone wheel generator, found in console and spinet models, cannot get out of tune. Some institutions report "no maintenance expense" year after year. Just think of the savings! Y. 10017 119 If you the Olds trombone is just for professionals think again! It's a natural thing to think, because the richly beautiful, full-throated tone of the Olds Operatrombone is the sound you expect from a professional. Professionals have also learned to take Olds' characteristic lightweight, instant response and feather-touch slide action for granted. And the Olds Opera Trombone price of $360 indicates pretty clearly the kind of musician you can expect to hear play it. But here's something else to think about. The OldsAmbassadortrombone, which has all the basic features essential to a fine musical instrument-good intonation, balanced range, flexible response and easy playing characteristics as well as feather-touch slide action and full-throated large-bore tone, just like the professionalmodels, sells for just $159.50! It's that kind of solidarity-8 distinctive horns in the trombone line alone-including an F Alto and a Custom-that makes Olds Band Instruments worth your attention. Think about it and then call your Olds man. Decision makerstrustthe big | F. E. CHOIR CONCERT CHORUS OPERA WORKSHOP BAND ORCHESTRA SYMPHONIC WINDENSEMBLE SMALL ENSEMBLES FELLOWSHIPS TO COMPOSERS FOR RESIDENT WORK AT PUBLIC SCHOOLS. The Contemporary Music Project solicits applications from composers for one-year fellowships to reside in selected school systems throughout the United States. The fellowships enable composers to devote their time exclusively to writing music for the performing organizations of the host schools. The composer is expected to take an active part in the general musical life of his host community and region. While maintaining a close working relationship with the musical organizations in the schools and the community, the composer will have no other formal duties or teaching obligations. American composers, not over 35 years of age, with demonstrated craft and mature experience are encouraged to apply. The fellowship carries a basic stipend of $5,500 for the school year, an increase of $500 over the current stipend. In addition, the Project provides funds for married composers, their children, and travel expenses. A married composer with two children, for example, will receive $7,500 during the school year. Fellowships are renewable for a second year. Deadline for application and submitting of a sampling of the composer's work is December 15, 1965. Awards will be announced in February 1966 for fellowships beginning in September 1966. Applicants are selected by a panel of distinguished composers under the chairmanship of Norman Dello Joio. The Project is administered by the Music Educators National Conference under a $1,380,000 grant from the Ford Foundation.
