IETB0ABB MMK® Dr. Lawrence Rast, author of Keyboard Magic, is a recognized authority on group piano instruction. He conducts teacher workshops in all sections of this country as well as in Europe, Africa and Australia. In Keyboard Magic, Dr. Rast deals directly with the challenge of involving teens and young adults in meaningful keyboard experiences through an audiovisual format. Three levels of student textbooks were created to accompany the audiovisual lesson materials. However, many teachers have discovered that the books alone may be used very effectively for group as well as individualized instruction. Whether you use the audiovisual materials or only the books, you will be pleased with your students' progress and with their enjoyment of the Keyboard Magic course. To acquaint you with these texts, we offer all three student books (value $10.50) for the price of one ($3.50). Limit one set per teacher. Offer expires September 30, 1980. Please write also for complete information on the Keyboard Magic audiovisual program. Write or call Educational Productions, Inc. 494 Armour Circle, N. E. Guides to Creative Motion Musicianship. By Margaret Allen. Ard-more, Pennsylvania: Dorrance & Company, 1979. x + 125 pp. Glossary. Hard cover, $6.95. This book seeks to train the music student to regard technique and expression as essentially one and the same. Beginning with the rudiments of oppositional forces and body balances, the author explains the mechanics of chord color, harmonic structure, phrasing, and analysis from an aesthetic perspective that insists upon the synthesis of a musician's physical, mental, and emotional faculties. Mental and physical exercises are used to illustrate this philosophy. The publisher's address is 35 Cricket Terrace, Ardmore, Pennsylvania 19003. 18 Music after Modernism. By Samuel Lipman. New York: Basic Books, 1979. viii + 256 pp. Index. Hard cover, $11.95. According to the author, modern music has failed, with the exception of a few works by a few masters, to win a place in the hearts and ears of listeners. He cites the ever-widening gap between contemporary composers and audiences and claims that this lag will have serious consequences. The final chapters include predictions about the future of music's economic status and popularity and suggestions on how to upgrade the appreciation of contemporary music.
