<meta-value> bulletin board Lully archive. Stanford University, in Stanford, California, has established an archive of materials from Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687), the influential court composer to King Louis XIV of France. The archive will be the central repository of primary sources for a complete edition of Lully's works that is in progress. Assembling the collection may require many years and the works may fill sixty-four volumes in six series. The first volume is expected to be published by Broude Brothers in 1983 or 1984. Anticipating that the archive will make Stanford the international center for Lully scholarship and those interested in performing his music, Stanford is considering hosting a Lully tricentenery celebration in 1987. March in the Rose Bowl parade. The Pasadena Tournament of Roses invites band directors to apply for spots in the Rose Bowl Parade. Bands east of the Rockies should apply fourteen to sixteen months prior to each parade, bands west of the Rockies nine to eleven months before the parade. The bands are selected by the music committee of the Tournament of Roses Association on the basis of past parade experience, recommendations from university band directors, and effectiveness in competitions. A letter indicating interest should be sent to the music committee, including a brief description of the band, uniforms, number of musicians, age range, amd recent performances. If the band qualifies, the director will be sent a formal application. The association can be contacted at 391 South Orange Grove Boulevard, Pasadena, California 91105. New association. Reyes Syndrome Musicathon: A national fundraising effort has been launched to combat this lethal children's disease. The project, held nationally from October through December, may be conducted locally at any time of the year and for any length of time. Children gather sponsors, who pledge to pay between one cent and one dollar for each new piece of music learned by the sponsored child within the allotted time. Each “piece” consists of thirty-two measures, with shorter pieces combined to equal one piece, and longer works broken up to count as more than a single piece. Awards for participating students include a decal for all, an embroidered emblem for those collecting $10, a T-shirt or an emblem for those collecting $20, and both a T-shirt and an emblem for those collecting $30. Teachers interested in organizing a Musicathon may request materials, which include a wall chart, brochures for sponsors, and other items, from Musicathon headquarters, 150 Blue Gate Circle, Dayton, Ohio 45429; 513-298-3757.
