<k><mods:affiliation>María Villalón is an Associate Professor at the Universidad Central de Venezuela. She specializes in the indigenous languages of the Orinoco River Basin In 1998 and 2002 she collaborated with the Venezuelan Institute of Cultural Patrimony (IPC), heading its Kari’ña and Mapoyo language programme and cooperated with the UNESCO Ad‐hoc Expert Group on Endangered Languages. She currently advises Venezuelan governmental institutions and NGOs on intercultural bilingual education and language planning.</mods:affiliation>
