| GEORGE T. BEECH is Professor emeritus of medieval history at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo. He has concentrated almost all of his scholarly research on various aspects of Poitevin and Aquitanian history in the eleventh and twelfth centuries. His publications have touched on monasticism, the aristocracy, Guillaume le Troubadour, ninth Duke of Aquitaine, relations between Aquitaine and England, Spain, and the Crusader East. With two colleagues from the University of Poitiers he recently made an historical and literary analysis of a celebrated Aquitanian narrative (récit)—George Beech, Yves Chauvin, Georges Pon, Le Conventum (vers 1030); un précurseur des premières épopées (Geneve, 1995). He has just finished a history of the fall of the Muslim kingdom of Zaragoza in 1120 and is at present completing a biography of Guillaume le Troubadour (d. 1126). 1995).
