The antient and modern history of the loyal town of Rippon: [Introduc'd by a poem on the surprizing beauties of Studley Park, with a description of the venerable ruins of Fountains-Abbey, written by Mr. Peter Aram; and another on the pleasures of a country life, by a Reverend young gentleman.] With particular accounts of three of the northern saints in the seventh century, viz. St. Cuthbert, who lies interr'd in the Cathedral at Durham; St. Wilfrid of Rippon; and St. John of Beverley. The famous charters of King Athelstane, and other monarchs, (given by them to the Church of Rippon) translated: the various times of re-building that minister, since its first foundation: its present happy state; with the arms, monuments and inscriptions, alphabetically digested. An exact list of the wakemen and mayors of the town, to this present year; interspersed with remarkable accidents. The death of several eminent persons: in particular, some of the venerable archbishops of this see, whose tombs are partly describ'd, with proper references to the history of York, for their inscriptions and epitaphs, to which this is very supplemental. Adorned with many cuts, preceded by a south west prospect (and a new plan) of Rippon. Besides are added, travels into other parts of Yorkshire. I. Beverley, an account of its minister: the seal of St. John: the beauty of St. Mary's.: and a list of the mayors of the town, since incorporated. II. Remarks on Pontesract. III. Of the Church at Wakefield. IV. Those of Leeds: with a visit to Kirkstal, and Kirkham. V. An account of Keighley. VI. State of Skipton Castle, &c. VII. Knaresborough. Of the Church, and its monuments; St. Robert's Chapel, &c. VIII. Towns near York: as, tadcaster, Bilbrough, Bolton Percy; Howlden; Selby, Wis[t]ow, Cawood Church and Castle; Acaster and Bishopsthorpe; Acomb, Nun. Monkton and Skelton, &c. with their antiquity and inscriptions. Faithfully and painfully collected by Tho. Gent, of York. To which is subjoin'd, by the Author of The country life, a letter to the Hon. John Aislabie, esq; ----the happy reign; an eclogue. And a Latin copy of verses, with a translation, on the renowned grotto of Queen Caroline.
004897 (????) An account of six years residence in Hudson's-Bay, from 1733 to 1736, and 1744 to 1747. By Joseph Robson, late surveyor and supervisor of the buildings to the Hudson's-Bay company. Containing a Variety of Facts, Observations, and Discoveries, tending to shew, I. The vast Importance of the Countries about Hudson's-Bay to Great-Britain, on Account of the extensive Improvements that may be made there in many beneficial Articles of Commerce, particularly in the Furs and in the Whale and Seal Fisheries. And, II. The interested Views of the Hudson's bay Company: and the absolute Necessity of laying open the Trade, and making it the Object of National Encouragement, as the only Method of keeping it out of the Hands of the French. To which is added an Appendix; containing, I. A short History of the Discovery of Hudson's-Bay; and of the Proceedings of the English there since the Grant of the Hudson's-Bay Charter: Together with Remarks upon the Papers and Evidence produced by that Company before the Committee of the Honourable House of Commons, in the Year 1749. II. An Estimate of the Expence of building the Stone Fort, called Prince of Wales's-Fort, at the entrance of Churchill-River. III. The Soundings of Nelson-River. IV. A Survey of the Course of Nelson-River. V. A Survey of Seal and Gillam's Islands. And, VI. A Journal of the Winds and Tides at Churchill-River, for Part of the Years 1746 and 1747. The whole illustrated, by a draught of Nelson and Hayes's Rivers; a draught of Churchill-River; and plans of York-Fort, and Prince of Wales's Fort.
