Abstract

Among other modern media such as newspapers, television or radio the internet has developed into a very important source of information offering a vast number of data. Within a short period one gets a lot of information which earlier had to be investigated lengthy. So it is obviously to use the excellent possibilities of the internet to get useful information in the field of food and nutrition sciences. In order to avoid time-consuming and unsuccessful search of information in the data jungle of the internet it is possible to use the offer of search engines or better of information systems which are presented in the internet by different organisations for the field of nutrition, food and agriculture. After an introduction to the internet and a short view of different search engines, the article presents four different information systems, which focus information in the field of nutrition, food and agriculture. These information systems are the German-language systems DAINet and GENUIN as well as the English-language systems AgNIC and WAICENT.
