Abstract

Abstract: Energy is an important factor in the economics of agricultural building. Environmental and management variables induce spatial and temporal variation in energy need. Coupling a climate database and agricultural building energy model to a geographical information system makes it possible to estimate areal and peak energy needs for temperature and humidity control. The application of the GIS technology is demonstrated in this paper by using a greenhouse energy model as an example. Manyfold differences in greenhouse energy need between diverse sites demonstrated the need to invest in developing easy to use energy evaluation systems.
