Abstract

Identifying and characterizing the conditions of access to the forest resources are strategic points for their sustainable and multifunctional management. The model Sylvaccess presented in this article is designed to automatically map the accessibility of forests with the tree main logging techniques currently used in France: skidder, forwarder and cable yarder. The model is based on spatial information and specific parameters of each logging technique. It can also integrate physical or environmental obstacles in the analysis. The outputs of the model can be used for many applications ranging from forest management and planning of logging operations to the comparison and selection of new forest roads projects.
