Abstract
Describes an information system for the management of agricultural research, INFORM, developed by the International Service for National Agricultural Research (ISNAR). The system takes data on researchers, experiments and the research budget and provides managers, and researchers, with a range of outputs for use in research planning, priority setting, monitoring and evaluation. A recent review of its performance in several countries has led to updated guidelines on implementation. These include the need: to carry out a series of interventions rather than one isolated training; to involve both top management and researchers; and to restrict the system to the minimum information needed.
