Abstract

This is a preliminary study on monitoring farmland by using remote sensing and GIS in Shanxi, China. As a result, farmland of high, medium and low yield was distinguished and mapped at scale 1:500000 for whole province; 1:100000 for Xingding Basin and 1:50000 for Dingxiang County. A monitoring system was established with support of RS, GIS and multi-media technology for classification, monitoring and utilization decision-making of farmland. It can be used in management of sustainable agriculture development in China.
