Abstract
Regional policy in France, as in other lands, has the aim of lessening the disparities in economic and social development of different regions, and the related disparities in living standards. In order to reach these ends certain means were adopted to introduce an active policy, and the first of these was a rational distribution of public investments. In practice the areas influenced by public investments co-incided with the ‘Circonscriptions d'Action Régionale’ delimited by the authorities, and this is justified by the necessities of planning public works. The results of the regionalisation of the investment budget begin to clear in France. Since detailed planning has been made the responsibility of different administrative levels the structure of regional disparity can be strengthened.
