Abstract
Artisanal fishing is the primary economic activity that generaes the income of Senegal. However, it faces an environmental and socio-economic crisis which impedes its development. Indeed, the situation of over-fishing and depletion of fish resources is proven in the majority of the centers of the coastal fisheries of Senegal. Socio-economic factors are a major constraint to the development of fishing activities. Development policies implemented by the State are often still at the planning stage, or have been poorly applied and monitored in the field. Thus fishing is the first economic activity of Senegal, it is urgent to solve the problems that undermine its development. Main objectives is to analyze the constraints of development of artisanal fisheries as well as strategies (biological, marine protected areas, decentralization of fishing piers, etc.) in order to solve the crisis affecting it. It also offers perspectives and solutions for sustainable management of fishery resources and the development of artisanal fisheries on the coast of Senegal involving all stakeholders (government, local authorities, fishing communities, development NGOs).
