Abstract

Alkylation of hydroxylactams (I) is smoothly achieved by activation of the hydroxy group by Broensted base‐catalyzed trichloroacetimidation followed by Broensted acid‐catalyzed nucleophilic substitution of the trichloroacetimidate group.
