Abstract

This work deals with a new methodology of the design optimisation of axial flux permanent magnet synchronous machine. The first step of the proposed methodology focuses on modelling of physical phenomena governing the machine behaviour. The proposed model is a multi-level magneto-thermo-mechanical model. The second step consists in writing the problem of the machine sizing in the form of a non-linear, constraint, multi-variable and vector optimization problem. To solve this problem, an optimization process based on an genetic algorithm and a DIRECT deterministic algorithm is performed. Then, the efficiency and reliability of the proposed design methodology is illustrated in the case of a 10kW / 200rpm axial flux generator dedicated to stand-alone wind energy systems.
