Abstract

Abstract: Analysis of different models available to treat complex kinetic systems with time-dependent rate coefficients was performed. The differential model (D), the superposition model (S), and the convolution model (C) were applied to a kinetic scheme describing two excited molecules in equilibrium that can also undergo diffusion-controlled quenching processes with another species. All the models predict similar results when the equilibrium is slow. However, large differences were obtained between the convolution model and the other ones in the case of fast equilibrium. Difference between models are explained in terms of the influence of the re-excitation term on the evolution of the distribution functions in the course of the quenching processes.
