Abstract

On the whole, communication between humans can be viewed as a multi-modal activity, since information exchanges in a human-human dialogue may concurrently involve the production and interpretation of speech utterances, written statements, drawings, pictures and gestures. Therefore the implementation of muldi-modal human-computer communication would greatly improve the efficiency and user-friendliness of current user-software interfaces, in-as-much as multi-modal human-computer interaction can significantly promote user acceptance within any of the three user communities defined by Schnederman.
