Abstract
One of the major difficulties in software maintenance is the need to determine the impact of modifications made to the software. One of the reasons for this is that a change in a part of a software must takes in to consideration the complex inter-relationships between the different parts of the software. In this paper we present a model (WHAT-IF) that allows the evaluation a priori of the impact of objects change in a software. WHAT-IF is a generic knowledge based model. It uses graph to represent the structure of a software system from different points of view. The inference engine for impact analysis and change propagation in the prototype is implemented using PROLOG.
