Abstract
Le concept d’identité numérique bénéficie actuellement d’une popularité qui se vérifie autant dans les milieux académiques qu’économiques avec l’émergence d’un marché des fournisseurs d’identité. Cet engouement laisse pourtant apparaître un défaut de réflexion sur ce que recouvre le terme. Face à la complexité du concept, les approches ne retiennent en général qu’un ensemble fini de critères définitoires. Cette « mutilation » rend difficile la compréhension des enjeux associés à la multiplication des traces numériques. En se fondant sur les travaux exploratoires accompagnant le développement d’un service de vérification de l’identité numérique, cet article fournit des premières pistes pour une appréhension complexe des formes prises par les identités numériques.
Scholars as well as economic decision-makers are highly concerned with the concept of digital identity nowadays, which is well shown by the rise of a digital identity providers market. Nevertheless, this interest also highlights a lack of reflexion about the complexity of what this concept is referring to. Definitions often deal with a limited number of criterias, leading to main difficulties when getting up to understanding issues shared by digital traces increase. This paper suggests a complex way to understand the different shapes one’s digital identity can take, relying on studies dealing with the development of a digital identity checking service.
