Abstract
Summary: Finding a robust speech representation is a very important research area which heavily conditions the success of the subsequent processings. In this chapter, we review the main advances done in this field, stressing in particular the use of spectral dynamics, spectral parameter filtering, normalization techniques, and modeling in the autocorrelation domain for robust ASR. We conclude the chapter by summarizing the work done on cepstral liftering and robust distance and similarity measures which have to be tightly integrated with the feature extraction module to yield a robust speech representation.
