Abstract
Resume: SELF/Antibio est une application du générateur de système expert SELF, conçu au Laboratoire d'Informatique Médicale de la Faculté de Médecine de Nancy, et sur lequel fonctionnent déjà une vingtaine d'applications médicales. SELF/Antibio se veut une aide à la prescription de première intention des antibiotiques en pratique de ville. Après avoir rappelé les principes de fonctionnement des systèmes experts en général, et de SELF en particulier, l'article décrit la base de connaissances d'Antibio et rapporte les résultats d'une première évaluation de cette application (effectuée auprès de médecins généralistes et hospitaliers, sous la direction d'un expert du Service des Maladies Infectieuses et Parasitaires du CHRU de Nancy). Ces résultats (82,3 % de réponses excellentes, 16,5 de bonnes réponses, et aucune réponse inacceptable sur 85 cas) sont encourageants et méritent d'être approfondis, ce qui pourrait se faire lors d'une étude à plus grande échelle.
Summary: SELF/Antibio is an application of the Expert System generator SELF, conceived in the Medical Informatics Laboratory of University of Medecine in Nancy with now about 20 medical applications running on it. SELF/Antibio has been developed to be an aid for the non specialized practitioners in the first intention antibiotic prescription. In the first part, the principles of working of Expert Systems and particularly of SELF are described. In the second part, this article describes the knowledge Base of SELF/Antibio and reports the results about the first evaluation of this application, realized with non specialized private and hospital practitioners, under the control of a medical expert from the Infections Diseases Department of the Universitary Hospital of Nancy. These results (respectively 82,3% and 16,5 % of excellent and good responses, and no false response, on 85 cases) are satisfying and need to be confirmed on a large scale study.

SELF/Antibio se veut une aide à la prescription de première intention des antibiotiques en pratique de ville. Après avoir rappelé les principes de fonctionnement des systèmes experts en général, et de SELF en particulier, l'article décrit la base de connaissances d'Antibio et rapporte les résultats d'une première évaluation de cette application (effectuée auprès de médecins généralistes et hospitaliers, sous la direction d'un expert du Service des Maladies Infectieuses et Parasitaires du CHRU de Nancy). Ces résultats (82,3 % de réponses excellentes, 16,5 de bonnes réponses, et aucune réponse inacceptable sur 85 cas) sont encourageants et méritent d'être approfondis, ce qui pourrait se faire lors d'une étude à plus grande échelle.</ce:simple-para></ce:abstract-sec></ce:abstract><ce:abstract id="ab2" class="author" xml:lang="en"><ce:section-title>Summary</ce:section-title><ce:abstract-sec><ce:simple-para>SELF/Antibio is an application of the Expert System generator SELF, conceived in the Medical Informatics Laboratory of University of Medecine in Nancy with now about 20 medical applications running on it. SELF/Antibio has been developed to be an aid for the non specialized practitioners in the first intention antibiotic prescription. In the first part, the principles of working of Expert Systems and particularly of SELF are described. In the second part, this article describes the knowledge Base of SELF/Antibio and reports the results about the first evaluation of this application, realized with non specialized private and hospital practitioners, under the control of a medical expert from the Infections Diseases Department of the Universitary Hospital of Nancy. SELF/Antibio se veut une aide à la prescription de première intention des antibiotiques en pratique de ville. Après avoir rappelé les principes de fonctionnement des systèmes experts en général, et de SELF en particulier, l'article décrit la base de connaissances d'Antibio et rapporte les résultats d'une première évaluation de cette application (effectuée auprès de médecins généralistes et hospitaliers, sous la direction d'un expert du Service des Maladies Infectieuses et Parasitaires du CHRU de Nancy). Ces résultats (82,3 % de réponses excellentes, 16,5 de bonnes réponses, et aucune réponse inacceptable sur 85 cas) sont encourageants et méritent d'être approfondis, ce qui pourrait se faire lors d'une étude à plus grande échelle.</abstract><abstract lang="en">Summary: SELF/Antibio is an application of the Expert System generator SELF, conceived in the Medical Informatics Laboratory of University of Medecine in Nancy with now about 20 medical applications running on it. SELF/Antibio has been developed to be an aid for the non specialized practitioners in the first intention antibiotic prescription. In the first part, the principles of working of Expert Systems and particularly of SELF are described. In the second part, this article describes the knowledge Base of SELF/Antibio and reports the results about the first evaluation of this application, realized with non specialized private and hospital practitioners, under the control of a medical expert from the Infections Diseases Department of the Universitary Hospital of Nancy.
