Start : | Mar 21, 2011 |
City : | Luxembourg |
Important dates |
The Tudor Research Centre has organized a seminar on:
- Semantic technologies and the semantic Web
On March 21st, 2011 13:30 – 16:00 at :
- CRP Henri Tudor, Room Metz
- 29, av. John F. Kennedy
- Luxembourg
- LUXEMBOURG
Topic of the seminar
As Tim Berners-Lee, founder of the Web, puts it “The Semantic Web will bring structure to the meaningful content of Web pages.” The publication of structured data on the Web enables machines not only to read but also to interpret information. The formalization of models as ontologies improves interoperability. It allows software to reason and to create new knowledge. Moreover, semantic technologies are also responsible for the emergence of new data-driven services, which create value over distributed and heterogeneous data.
Large companies are betting on semantic technologies, such as Oracle, IBM, Google, Yahoo!, or the BBC. Many applications use semantic technologies, such as semantic Wikis (e.g., Semantic MediaWiki)), content management systems (e.g., DRUPAL), or online services such as the Europeana digital library.
Programme
Three speakers have presented their current research in relation with semantic technologies and the semantic Web in the multimedia, transportation and medical environments.
- Introduction Muriel Foulonneau, Thibaud Latour
- Natural language search in multimedia knowledge bases [2]
- Serge Linckels presented his work and his book soon to be released on semantic search[3].
- Valentin Groues (candidat PhD), Tudor Research Centre, Knowledge Intensive Systems and Services
- Hybrid semantic and fuzzy approaches to context-aware personalisation [4]
- Dr Cédric Pruski, Tudor Research Centre, Resource Centre for Healthcare Technologies
- The use of Semantic Web technologies in the health, medical and biomedical domains [5]
