<meta-value> State and National School Music Competition-Festi EXCERPTS FROM OFFICIAL and National School Band, Orchestra Vocal Associations BULLETIN, CUMULATIVE COMPETITION Official Vocal Lists HE National School Vocal Association has undertaken, as one of its projects, the compilation of lists of materials for use in the state and regional competition-festivals. In the preparation of such lists, much work is involved. The music selected is considered from the standpoint of suitability for use in competition. The committee has aimed to include in the following lists, music which has actually been successfully used in the schools and, if possible, in competitive events. Since the demands for these types of lists are somewhat exacting, the various committees have consistently recommended to the Executive Committee of the N.S.V.A. that adequate lists can be successfully compiled only through the co6peration of persons engaged in vocal work in our schools throughout the country. The National School Vocal Association presents lists graded easy, medium and difficult. The grading does not indicate that large high schools should confine themselves to the difficult choruses or that small high schools should confine themselves to easy choruses; in the opinion of the committees, every number on the list is worth while music and worthy of a place on the program of high schools. The committee has endeavored to maintain a balance between sacred music and secular music, between music written by contemporary composers and music of earlier periods. in choral events at the regional competition Following is the plan for participation festivals. (1) Five numbers (two accompanied and three unaccompanied for mixed chorus) for regional competition events will be announced early in January. These numbers will be selected from the lists published in the booklet. (2) Each chorus will be required to prepare all five numbers selected from the lists From the list of five numbers, the adjudicator will select one published in the booklet. accompanied and one a cappella number for the audition. The total singing time of the two numbers shall not exceed eight minutes. Any region arranging a festival perfomance, will use these five numbers on festival program. All competing groups will be expected to participate in the festival chorus. (3) Two numbers to be chosen by the conductor, accompanied or a cappella, may be performed if time permits. The time for these selected numbers shall not exceed eight minutes. (4) Total performing time for both the required numbers and selected numbers shall not exceed sixteen minutes. (5) In small ensembles, all numbers will be a cappella. In male and female groups, all numbers may be a cappella. (6) All solo numbers will be accompanied. Following the auditions, it is recommended that the adjudicator make oral comments regarding points of general interest to the entire group. Regular comment sheets will be provided all adjudicators-these comment sheets to be distributed to the participating conductors. LIST FOR MIXED Easy CHORU Beautiful Dreamer…………………………….
