Abstract

Schiefele and Raabe (2011) propose that flow could best be described as a state of being strongly immersed in the activity. Although this may be the most important component of flow and represent the core of the construct, it disregards the fact that the flow experience is an experience with different components. Merely taking one aspect, and considering all other aspects, such as being concentrated on the task, as not being a constitutive part of flow leads to the problems mentioned in this comment. More generally, it represents a misunderstanding that flow can be reduced to one component alone.
