<title>Cognitive constructs were measured using SACC (Schedule of Assesment of Cognitive Constructs) Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) General self-esteem</title>
</host>
<title>Eating disorder symptomatology was measured using EAT-SADS (Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia, version modified for Eating Disorders) The instrument was administered to 63 eating disordered subjects Linear regression analysis was carried out to investigate the hypothesis RESULTS: In anorexic subjects, need for control and fear of fear predicted bingeing and use of laxatives, and need for control predicted physical exercise In bulimic subjects negative self-evaluation pre International literature on eating disorders in males has steadily increased as awareness has grown Despite this, related South African (SA) literature remains scarce. The existence of these disorders in SA males requires documentation; hence the current study was undertaken. Specifically, the research shall attempt to identify features that are present in males in a SA hospitalised setting, which specialises in the treatment of eating disorders. This will be compared to contemporary international literature. The subject sample (n ¼ 17), constitute all males who were admitted into the Eating Disorders Unit of the Tara, H. Moross Centre during the period 1993–2002. The data has been collected from a record review and is descriptive in nature. Seventy six percent were diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa, 12% with Bulimia Nervosa and 12% with an Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. The sample is predominantly located in the upper social classes Age at onset (mean ¼ 15, 3 years) and age at presentation (mean ¼ 18, 5 years), with a mean duration of illness at presentation of 3, 6 years, appears to be slightly divergent from international studies. Specifically, duration of illness is longer. The majority (41%) of the study was confirmed to be heterosexual Spain Purpose of research Teasing is a prominent risk factor for the development of an eating disorder (ED). To ascertain the influence of teasing about physical appearance on bodyimage self-assessment and general self-esteem in female ED patients. Subject sample and statement methods. The application to a clinical population (54 patients with EDs) of the following questionnaires Setting Conditions for Anorexia Nervosa Scale (SCANS) and the Percepcion of Teasing Scale (POTS) Analysis of the correlations (Spearman Rho) between the POTS scores and the variables Appearance-based self-esteem Bulimia and drive for thinness (EDI) Summary of Results 1.-POTS-Body dissatisfaction: Positive correlations with body dissatisfaction (BSQ & EDI) (p > 0.01) and with physical-appearance-based self-esteem (BSQ) (p > 0.01). 2.-POTS-General self-esteem No correlation with the corresponding SCANS factor. On the other hand, a weak correlation (p ¼ 0.045) with the EDI self-esteem factor. 3.-POTS-Bulimia/drive for thinness No significant correlations with the factors drive for thinness and bulimia</title>

<title>Spain Purpose of the study: To assess the relationship between body image dissatisfaction and the perception of one's own silhouette in a population without eating disorders. Subject sample and statement of methods: Sample: 35 female university students. Subjects with EAT-40 scores above the cutoff point of 30 (n ¼ 2) were excluded. The remainder were assessed with the BSQ (Body Shape Questionnaire) to measure their level of body image preoccupation Body image evaluation:, computer-generated silhouettes are obtained using digital pictures (front and profile) These are then run through a program which produces body images that are laterally distorted, but maintain proper height and exclude the head</title>
