Abstract

A sensitive and selective adsorptive stripping voltammetric method was employed to determine traces of tin in water samples. The spontaneously formed tin complex with 2,5-dichloro-1,4-dihydroxy-3,6-benzoquinone (chloranilic acid) is adsorbed at the surface of a mercury drop electrode. The analyte can be preconcentrated in this way applying a potential between +100 and −200 mV to the working electrode. The adsorption behaviour is investigated by means of alternating current voltammetry. Tin traces were determined after UV-digestion in drainage water samples.
