Abstract

1.1. The difference in the concentration of serum total protein and nonprotein nitrogen together with creatinine, uric acid and urea of both Cyprinus carpio and Bagrus bayad was correlated to the difference in metabolic rate.2.2. The study of protein fractionation showed that the gamma globulin fraction if of a very small concentration in both species and the albumin is of a low percentage in Cyprinus carpio. These results are in harmony with the current hypothesis in fresh water teleosts.3.3. The increase in concentration of total nonprotein nitrogen and creatinine was explained as being due to increase in tissue catabolism, and vice versa.4.4. Urea nitrogen levels showed very low concentrations with narrow limits of variation in both species throughout the whole experimental period.5.5. Seasonal variations of uric acid concentration was found to be species specific.
