Abstract

Summary: 1. 34 species of Chydoridae, 4 species of Sididae, and 10 species of Macrothricidae are found in the marginal zone of the Volga Water Reservoirs (table I). Geographically most species are distributed everywhere in the investigated area, but some species are present only in the northern or in the southern reservoirs. 2. The biomass of Chydoridae in the inshore vegetation exceeds tenfolds their biomass on the bare grounds, the species composition is also different (tables II–VI). 3. On bare shores Chydoridae being generally scanty are comparatively more abundant on muds and sand, the most scanty biomass is present on stony shores. 4. The level of biomass of Cladocera in the inshore vegetation correlates with the degree of the development of the inshore vegetation in a water reservoir (tables III, V).

Summary: 1. 34 species of Chydoridae, 4 species of Sididae, and 10 species of Macrothricidae are found in the marginal zone of the Volga Water Reservoirs (table I).
