Abstract
Thyrotropin (TSH) was isolated from pituitaries of black silver carp (Aristichthys nobilis), designated as bscTSH. Molecular weight of bscTSH was 28 kDa as determined by gel-filtration chromatography. SDS-PAGE analysis revealed that bscTSH consisted of two subunits. Isoelectric point of bscTSH was at pHs from 7.8 to 8.4, and its sialic acid content was 0.86%. Amino acid composition of intact bscTSH was comparable to tetrapod TSHs. The isolated bscTSH was potent in stimulation of the circulating thyroxine level in common carp and loach, but was inactive in stimulation of their gonadal steroidogenesis.
