Abstract
Abstract: Ribosomal RNA (28 s, 18 s and 5 s rRNA) is synthesized in germinating uredospores of flax rust [Melampsora lini (Pers.) Lev., Race no. 3] during the initial 6 h of hydration in the absence of the host or of a favourable medium. During this period, the newly transcribed rRNA molecules are associated with mature ribosomal subunits (60 s and 40 s) and with monomeric ribosomes (80 s). The newly formed ribosomes, containing32P-labeled RNA and3H-labeled proteins, actively engage in protein synthesis in vivo since they were recovered from the polysomal region after monosomes and polysomes were separated by sucrose density-gradient centrifugation.
