Abstract

Reaction of the CuII complex of the podand hexamine “sen”, CH3C(CH2NHCH2CH2NH2)3, with formaldehyde and nitroethane under basic conditions provides, as one of the principal products, a complex containing a new ligand which is not only macrocyclic but which has resulted also from reactions to extend one podand arm, to introduce an aminal bridge and to oxidise one of the donor‐N atom units to an imine.
