Abstract
Biological half-lives of 16 trichloro- to decachlorodiphenyl ether isomers were determined in rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri). A whole body half-life of 63 days was estimated for a trichloro-isomer. Values for tetrachloro- to heptachloro-isomers generally exceeded 100 days, and mean values among the congeners increased with chlorine content. A half-life of 46 days was determined for the decachloro-isomer. Absorption efficiencies ranged from 13–65% of the oral dose administered, and mean values among congeners generally decreased with increasing chlorine content. These results were compared with similar studies on polychlorinated biphenyls, dibenzofurans, and dibenzodioxins.
