The SUITMA 2011 symposium is organized in Marrakech (Morocco).

Session 1 : SUITMAs and the increasing population demand
- Soil diversity in urban areas (artifacts, soil types, classification, mapping)
- SUITMAs as support for food production (urban agriculture, soil fertility, soil contamination and soil-to-plant transfer)
- Competition for land : soil remediation and restoration, e.g. brownfield sites;
- SUITMAs a resource for energy and non-renewable compounds, e.g. P, rare elements

Session 2 : SUITMAs and climate change
- Mitigation of GHG emissions (CO2, CH4, N2O)
- Control of water flux and quality
- Mitigation of temperature variations in cities

Session 3 : Biodiversity in SUITMAs
- Abundance and functions of organisms in urban soils
- Evolution of SUITMAs, and impacts on biodiversity

Session 4 : SUITMAs as buffer for human health and social stability
- Direct soil-to-human transfer and impact of contaminants (pollutants, pathogens)
- Urban landscape (e.g. trees in cities, art, archeology)
- Urban agriculture (e.g. gardening)
- Education and training
